When I arrived at the University of California, Berkeley, in the spring of 2020, I was the youngest person in a new student group called the Green Building Canada, which was made up of the best students in the country who wanted to build sustainable buildings.
It was a moment of pride.
I knew this group would be crucial in our country’s future.
But the first thing I realised was that, to get to that point, we had to get rid of all the conventional building materials.
These were the things that had been used for thousands of years.
I could see the possibilities.
It had been more than a decade since I had spent my formative years working in an industrial environment, so I was still adapting to the demands of the modern world.
The university had been a pioneer in building sustainability in its buildings, including in its food-service and hospitality sectors.
Now, the Green building Canada was being tasked with the task of creating sustainable buildings for the 21st century.
Its members had been working for more than five years on a vision for a green building.
We were building a green house in a suburb of New York City, which we hoped would be a model for the rest of the world.
But when the project got underway, the first hurdle was overcoming the opposition of a group of developers who had invested hundreds of millions of dollars in a green-building project that had only just begun.
We had to be very, very careful about the environmental impacts, and it became increasingly clear to us that if we did not get the building permits we needed, it would not be sustainable.
A lot of people thought we were crazy.
They were going to destroy the environment.
The project was in danger of going into default and was in the process of being restructured.
There were also concerns that we would not have enough green building materials to meet the requirements for sustainable building.
The students were frustrated and had little time to spend on the project, but they decided to stick with it.
The building of a sustainable building was about more than building green houses.
It meant designing buildings that would be both safe and environmentally friendly, so that people could live in them and be comfortable.
As a student in this group, you are not supposed to have a vested interest in the design or construction of a building, but you are always there to see what’s going on and give input.
As we were building, the idea of using sustainable materials was just starting to take shape.
But we needed a certain level of engineering expertise, so we were given a team of designers, engineers and project managers.
This was the first time I had ever met people from different disciplines in the same building.
They worked together as a team, and I became more involved as the project grew.
We designed two homes that were part of a larger green building that would serve as a model.
The first house, called The Green House, was a modernist building that we had designed to be a home for our family, but it also had a social component to it.
We wanted it to have two bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen, and we wanted the windows to be glass so we could look out on the cityscape.
The second house, The Green Barge, was built as a more modern building with a smaller footprint and a green roof.
It has a garden on the deck and was designed to have the same design as the Green House.
In the beginning, we wanted to design it so that the roof could be removed in the winter, so the water could be pumped into the building during the winter months, when it would cool off.
We used recycled materials and recycled concrete from the University.
We also designed a water system that would supply the greenhouse with water from the lake.
We built it in a small space, which made it much more accessible and also made it easy to install solar panels on the roof, which would power the building with solar energy.
And then we built a greenhouse for the kids, who would live in the living room.
This greenhouse was not intended to be the largest in the building, and that was the goal all along.
I was in awe of how our project was going to look in the end, and what a good building it would look like.
It wasn’t about being the most beautiful building, or even the most efficient building.
This project was about creating a building that people can feel comfortable living in and that is a good investment for the community.
In a world where we have so many different kinds of buildings, we needed to take the environmental and social impacts of our buildings seriously.
We needed to make sure they were sustainable, but also that we didn’t destroy the planet or make people sick.
It didn’t matter how big the building was, the green building was not going to be enough.
We decided to make the building larger.
